All the babies are underweight but hopefully will do well and Mum is likely to be pregnant again as she was in with the male when she littered (along with two other sows). Linus (previously known as Vince) was adopted from us in March to be a friend to Hugo. Sadly their owners are having to find rented accommodation and despite trying their hardest they have been unable so far to find a landlord that will allow them to keep their guinea pigs. I am hoping that once they have moved we will find some way for these boys to return to them as they are wonderful boys and have ben cared for wonderfully while with their owners. If in time these boys are unable to be reunited with their much loving owners they will be available for re-homing to an adult only home as Linus is quite skittish about being picked up although once settled he s lovely to cuddle. Hugo is just adorable and a very easy going boy. I sincerely hope these guys can be reunited with their owners who are a lovely couple who adore these boys.

Linus has a small scab on his nose from a cut sustained before arrival he is a bit skitty so probably banged it running about.

Hugo

Tink and Buzz a pair of girls, 11 months old. Their owner was no longer able to keep them due to her childs allergies.
Arriving 28/5
Eight guinea pigs from a group of 11 that the owner could no longer care for will be joining us today. Sadly the result of a pet shop selling a mis sexed pair and then continuing the bad advice on the arrival of the first litter so a son was said to be a girl and left in with mum and sister.
Unfortunately as the guinea pigs had the roan gene this resulted in what are called 'lethal' babies which have a variety of problems. More details to follow......
I managed to find space for 9 of these guineas today as the original male had some bite marks from fighting and had to be removed.

Arrived 5/5/08
A lovely friendly boar who was dumped in the same group on a doorstep who was being cared for by the lady who kindly took some of them in. He has come here to be a friend to Mr Hutchinson (on of the babies that came here with Jolly)and they are getting on very well.
Arrived 19/4/08-Sadly passed away
A little pink eyed white sow in poor condition from the same group of guinea pigs collected on the 16th she was not well enough to travel when I first saw her.

She has lost most of her fur on one side and is undergoing treatment.
Arrived 16/4/08
I went to collect some of the guinea pigs that had been dumped on a door step yesterday.
The following are now in our care
A sow nursing three babies all are very thin, the babies are no more than a few days old. One male and two female babies. The Mum is very thin so an auntie guinea pig was put in with them to help out by the lady who found them but they have now been seperated due to some scuffles, she also looks to be pregnant.

Very thin and balding probably due to vitamin deficiency and poor condition this girl is having some help nursing her three bubs.

This is auntie pig you can clearly make out her back bone and the fact she has a large pregnant looking lump bless her. Her skin is in a much better state.
The rest of the females are a white rex sow who is probably pregnant, a buff sow that is pregnant and two agouti sows that might be pregnant.

Two boars both golden in colour came here too.... pictures to follow as they did not come out well and I only ever take a couple on an initial assessment so not to stress them too much.
In total eleven guineas who will stay here for at least a week in quarantine and have treatment before they will be moved if possible into foster care. Any guineas that are nursing or who are apparently pregnant will stay here as we do not want to stress them by moving them again.
Cheryl has kindly taken on seven other sows from this dumped group into her care for the next couple of months for treatment.
Ron has kindly offered to foster some more boars directly from the lady with whom the guineas were dumped with out them coming here going straight into quarantine at his sanctuary.

Arrived 24/2/08
I attended a local animal auction today as I had heard reports of guinea pigs being sold ending up as ferret food. I was upset to see very young guinea pigs for sale and also many pregnant sows :(
There were over 50 guinea pigs on sale their auction prices ranging from 50p to 13.50
Many had uncertain futures.....
I brought home:
An adult black and tan boar that cost 50p :(
A Dal 8 week old boar to keep him company- they are getting on famously.
Three baby coronet boars who were approximately 2-3weeks old and far too young to be sold.
Three pregnant sows (costing 2-4 each)
It saddens me that these auctions occur the majority of guineas selling for around 2. I removed the guineas I considered the most needy and hope to give them a brighter future.
The little boars for sale were smaller than the 2 and a half week old boys we have here, and were far too young to be sold. Guinea pigs are usually sold at 6-8 weeks of age.

(180 grams)

(240 grams)

(250 grams and more jumpy/nervous than the others)
Guineas this young should either still be with Mum (especially the first chap!) or under the care of an experienced owner they are all very thin and will be receiving extra suppliments to help them grow.
Two boars both very sociable
One is around 8weeks the other is an adult..

Two sows one very obviously pregnant and I suspect the other is...

The third sow is very pregant and very nervous..pics to follow when she has settled properly.
Arrived 10/2/08
There was a bit of a mix up at the other local rescue so they were not expecting my arrival today. End result was they did not have space for an elderly boar who preferred to live alone and a pregnant four year old sow.

Moose a 4+year old boar who prefers to live alone but would probably like to be able to see and hear other guinea pigs.

Doon a 4 year old sow who is pregnant
Arrived on 9/2/08
Today we collected a 4year old sow and her two very young babies who could no longer be kept by their owner. They are very nervous but are sweet guineas and I hope they will come round with handling. The rest of the owners guineas (13 of them) are being collected by myself and taken to another local rescue tomorrow. The Mum and babies are all White with Ruby/Blue eyes.

Arrived on 10/1/08
Snowy-Another girl guinea from the same home, she had been given to the original guineas owners sister but had been homed in a pair with her brother. She is 3-5 months old. She could be pregnant, so she will stay with us until she is definately not expecting. She looks a lot like Kiki with the same silver head but with a white body.
Arrived on 3/1/08
One more girl guinea pig from the same home that I collected from on the 1/1/08. She is 3-5months old.
Update 8/1 After a check by the vets he does not think she is pregnant (I had suspected she might be in the early stages of pregnancy with 1 baby). Early pregnancies are hard to confirm so Kiki will stay with us until we are sure that she is not pregnant.
Arrived on 1/1/08
Unfortunately as a result of buying a pair of wrongly sexed guinea pigs from a pet shop someone was over run with 15 guinea pigs.
We took in 11 of them, as 5 are sows that are young (3 or 5 months) and possibly pregnant they will be found places with fosterers or other rescue centres.
2 Boars one 5months and one 3 months old, both silver agouti and white, one rough coat one smooth coat - hopefully these boys have already found a home with someone on our waiting list
A Six month old sow with 3 three day old babies, these will be staying with us until they are old enough to re-home, as Mum could be pregnant again she will also stay with us until she is confirmed as not pregnant.
All the babies are female (on quick examination will confirm at 3 weeks).
Mum is very small as being pregnant so young has stunted her growth. These babys will be available for re-homing when they are old enough.
Two boars aged 5months (back) and 3months (front) -Now re-homed
Two five month old sows, these girls are pregnant and will be in foster care until they and their babies are ready for re-homing.
Three 3month old sows, these girls could also possibly be pregnant they are now being looked after by Sprowston Guinea Pig Rescue.
The guinea pigs that were kept by their owner have now been correctly sexed and seperated appropriately. One of the girls they still have is pregnant so I will be keeping in touch with them to sort out suitable homes for the young ones when they arrive.
Arrived on 7/12/07-now re-homed
Two self black Sows approximately 8 months old. They are in good health and will be avaiable for re-homing in the new year.
Arrived on 3/12/07-now rehomed
A little 4 week old boar arrived today. Unfortunately when his owners got two sows from a pet shop one was pregnant, and they got more guineas than they expected. He had been living with his Mum, Auntie and sister but the time had come for him to be removed as he could have got them pregnant in the near future. He is a beautiful buff and white fellow and is currently settling in with his new friend Jumbo. They were very good when they were introduced given the little boy had never met another male. He and Jumbo are getting on well although we will be keeping a close eye on them. Jumbo is very sociable with other pigs so we would be happy to re-home Tiny seperately.
4/12
Jumbo and 'Tiny'
Arrived on...11/11/07
The Golden girls -rehomed
Seven golden self sows that range in age from two to two and a half years, all very easy to handle and we hope to re-home them in pairs, but may be able to re-home single girls if they are going to a home where they will join other guinea pigs . All the girls are very sociable and mix well in groups with sows or castrated boars. Some of these lovely girls need some treatment for their feet, so may be with us for a while before they are ready for re-homing.
Jumbo Due to medical problems he is staying here
A two year old dark eyed golden self boar. We are hoping to pair him up with a young male when one becomes available or get him castrated. Lovely big chap who will be looking for a home when he has finished quarantine.
Arrived on 24/10/07
Chubs -Now re-homed
Born in July of 2005 Chubs is very laid back and easy to handle. She came in with her friend Daphne who unfortunately passed away shortly after she arrived due to kidney problems. Chubs is being paired with a new friend and will be available for rehoming soon.
