We are very lucky when big cases come to our attenion as we work along with several other local people who are guinea pig fanatics-
Cheryl who used to run Sprowston Guinea Pig Rescue still helps us with big cases and is always there for help and advice.
Ron of the Moon and Star Sanctuary fosterers regularly for us and is happy to take on more dufficult guineas
Sophie the queen of long haired guineas who kindly fosterers for us and is happy to help out in any emergency
Jayne in Swanton Abbot is always happy to take more difficult sows into her herd
PACT is another local rescue centre that is self funding and we have developed links with them for when large cases occur at either rescue and we need to find space for many guinea pigs.
Recently Claire has started the Guinea Pig Shelter in Hellesdon.
Guinea Pig Re-homing is not just us here in Horsham it is a group of people who self fund and do what they can to help local guinea pigs in need.
Many kind people have offered to foster for us and the message that guineas need help is growing. With numbers swelling here iwithout the above people I would no longer to be able to take on big cases.
When phoning around for spaces for the most recent large rescue I was given numbers by the RSPCA for local small animal centres. The Norwich, Great yarmouth , Lowestoft and Ipswich branch of the RSPCA all rely on provate individuals and self funding rescues to care for the small furries having no facilities for them at the RSPCA at all. Three of the numbers were of rescues that had closed and the fourth was my own. Luckily between Lyz and Keith at Hallswood, the kind peole at PACT, the lady on whom the piggys were dumped and Guinea Pig Re-homing Norfolk all these guineas are now safe and cared for.
Unfortunatley all the care for small aniamls in Norfolk that are unwanted falls to small self funding organisations. Often they only operate for a few years due to finincial pressure and also the fact that without national funding and recognition they are often swamped with animals.
